(1) Cardiovascular Health and Air Quality: Chronic exposure to fine particles in our surrounding air is a well-established risk factor for hypertension development and cardiovascular disease. Randomized cross-over studies have demonstrated that adults using portable air cleaners, particularly HEPA air purifiers, experience meaningful reductions in their systolic blood pressure (SBP). Specifically, using these filters at home for approximately one month has been shown to significantly lower SBP in individuals with elevated blood pressure.
(2) The Mechanism of Filtration: Fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅)—tiny particles less than 2.5 µm—can enter the lungs and bloodstream, triggering systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, and endothelial dysfunction. Air purifiers reduce indoor PM₂.₅, which lowers systemic inflammation markers (such as CRP and cytokines) linked to hypertension. Multiple intervention studies report improved inflammatory profiles and reduced oxidative DNA damage after consistent filtration. Taking charge of your air quality is a foundational step in precision longevity.
